Growing up in York, Pennsylvania I was exposed to this profession at an early age by my grandfather, an architect, and by my parents who always seemed to be renovating a different room in their old house.
I came to Knoxville in 1996 to study architecture at UT; as a student, I indulged my interest in urban design by participating in the Chattanooga Downtown & Riverfront Design Studio under the direction of professor Stroud Watson.
Upon graduation I was eager to be a part of Knoxville’s budding downtown revitalization, so I took a job with a respected local firm and bought an old home nearby that was in need of much love and renovation. Sara joined that firm a few years later and we’ve been together ever since.
Aside from my work at Open Door, I enjoy teaching design studio as a part-time lecturer at UT, as well as being active in Knox Heritage and the Fourth & Gill neighborhood. In my spare time I can often be found enjoying a beer with friends or working on the renovation of our house.
