This beautiful bungalow is half a block away from our own home in the historic Fourth & Gill Neighborhood. So when HGTV asked us to help them renovate it to be the HGTV Urban Oasis 2017, we said YES!
Our goal was to design a house with tons of old-house character that was livable for a modern family. We resisted the current “open-concept” trend of removing the interior walls and instead created more openness in the floor plan by using historic details like wide door openings, paneled half-walls with columns, and french doors between rooms. The careful restoration of the original windows and front door floods the home with daylight.
One of the biggest transformations was on the back of the home, where a derelict apartment had been added decades ago. We converted the space into a breezy screened porch, complete with a cozy outdoor fireplace and views to the private backyard.
